“The language of art historical criticism automatically prejudices the perception of non-Western art in any consideration of what is, or isn’t, or might be called contemporary art. In championing the contemporary nature of Aboriginal art as a practice, most commentators resort to comparisons with Western Modernism. This paradigm is ultimately unhelpful as it ensures Aboriginal art is kept at the margins.” (2013)
