MARKET AGENT
In
addition to its focus on Aboriginal Art, ArtiFacts also offers clients
specialist auction industry knowledge. With over 12 years experience in
the sector, Jane Raffan has knowledge of all specialist departments in
major Australian auction houses, and can offer expedient and objective
advice to clients who are seeking to have collections or individual items
appraised and consigned to auction.
While at Phillips International Auctioneers, Australia and Shapiro, Jane
contributed to the cataloguing process for an extensive array of material:
from Australian paintings and photography to European works of art; a
broad range of decorative arts, including jewellery, silver, porcelain
and antique furniture; all categories of Design material, from the late
19th century through to contemporary exponents; and collectables as diverse
as sporting memorabilia, garden statuary, militaria, Australian pottery
and Clarice Cliff ceramics.
TESTIMONIAL
''Jane,
I would like to commend you for providing a highly responsive and efficient
service. Although this is a very specialised and niche area you made the
process of locating an appropriate valuer so easy from start to end. The
valuer you recommended was of high calibre, very professional, knowledgeable
and reliable. I am 110% satisfied with the service provided by Artifacts
Arts Services and look forward to dealing with you in the future."
Diana Saad, Trust Officer, National Australia Trustees, NAB Private
Wealth, National Australia Bank
Of particular interest to legal practitioners and trustees, ArtiFacts
can act as a conduit to expediting consignment of material that must be
sold by public auction.
Jane Raffan maintains an extensive network of specialist contacts within
the auction industry but has no contracted business relationship with
any auction house, so clients can be assured of receiving advice that
is designed to produce the best results for the material in question,
dependant on the timeframe required to net proceeds.

MUSEUM
SERVICES
Many
regional and small museums have collections with Aboriginal works of art.
Some of these works may have entered into collections through means other
than direct acquisition to fill a collection gap, and consequently have
not been researched to the same degree as other works.
The market for Aboriginal art is dynamic, and it is possible that the
status of some of these works since acquisition may subsequently have
changed. Works considered to have held little value or significance in
the 1970s for example, are now highly valuable, as are many bark paintings
from the 1950s. Artifacts can provide significance assessments of any
individual works or groups, as well as up-to-date research and cataloguing,
including copyright information. Writing material for education and public
programs or marketing purposes is also offered.
Artifacts
is cognisant of the limited budgets available to small museums for collection
development in non core areas and is willing to work within negotiated
parameters.
Artifacts
has recently provided services to the following public institutions:
Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney
Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, Victoria
Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, University of Western Australia, Perth
Moree Plains Art Gallery, New South Wales.
